As a leader in population health nursing, I will influence change through the creation and implementation of programs that direct focus on current health issues for populations within my community. With time and experience, I may broaden my scope and work at a national or even international level. In order to get my ideas off the ground, I will need to have a lot of people (shareholders, policymakers, peers, and administrators) convinced that my ideas have merit. It is much easier to think of my leadership role in a broad sense (creating change and leading through policies and programs), rather than on an interpersonal level. I know that getting my MSN will open doors for me in terms of leadership roles, and that is one of the reasons why I am pursuing this degree. However, to be quite honest, my personality type is not that of a natural leader; at least not in the traditional sense. When I picture a leader, I think of someone who commands attention in a room and has no problem speaking in front of large groups of people.
