Compassionate person-centered care is described as excellent healthcare that includes a patient’s needs, values, and preferences in an empathetic way (Boyd, 2016). This aligns with my personal concept of caring as I feel that the patient is just as important in guiding their care as the medical team is. If choices in care are offered to the patient, it instils trust in the patient-medical team relationship. A successful patient outcome starts with a positive patient-medical team relationship. Indeed, if a patient is included as a partner in their care, they will be more invested, and are more likely to comply with medical interventions.
